"The most critical time for designers to be involved in a digital product is all the time, but it’s perhaps most important for them to stick around after the launch, when they can see how a real user base is using it, and then amend, refine, revise and evolve it."

The Impossible Cool

Just a select few photos from The Impossible Cool blog, go check it out!

"Every device does not need to have the same experience. Trying to maintain the same experience in all devices is dated. It is an obsolete approach. People understand different devices provide different experiences."

Advice from Ira Glass

Such great advice for anyone in a creative field.

The Work of Jon Contino

Jon Contino does some outstanding hand-drawn type work, and a great new website to showcase it all. I can’t get enough of it.

Typesketches.com

I dribbbled this a few days ago, but wanted to give it a quick mention here as well. I started the design for what will become a new blog to document my process in drawing typography. On the blog, I’ll focus mainly on producing new work and gaining feedback or critique by any interested parties, but also post inspiration and tips I’ve learned along the way.

My ultimate goal is to become proficient is drawing my own type, studying the ins-and-outs of type anatomy and styles, while eventually developing my own font families.

It will be quite an undertaking for me and a new direction I’m very excited about.

Dribbble’d

I recently received an invite to become a player on Dribbble from the awesome Kurt Gannon, a fellow Connecticutian! As a prospect, I had been enjoying simply being a spectator of all the great shots coming in, but I’m excited to put my own work out there soon.

I love the high level of talent the Dribbble community brings to the table, and I think Dan Cederholm is doing a great job keeping it interesting with new features.

The work of Dustin Wallace

Lately it’s been such an overwhelming fad to simply take all of your inspiration from retro 50’s-style packaging, as showcased on sites like Grain Edit. Maybe Don Draper is to blame? However, in the sea of copycats and drones, the work of Dustin Wallace (aka Wallace Design House) definitely stands out from the bunch — great textures and great type.

Ideal Sans

It’s always a treat when my favorite foundry releases a new type family. Last week, Hoefler & Frere-Jones introduced Ideal Sans, “a handmade typeface for a machine-made age.”

“Setting aside the easy pursuit of digital perfection, Ideal Sans favors handmade forms that help it achieve different goals: warmth, craftsmanship, and humanity.”

Don’t Fear the Internet

With a great-looking new site “Don’t Fear the Internet”, Jessica Hische and Russ Maschmeyer will attempt to teach basic HTML and CSS coding skills to non-professional web developers.

The 50 Things to Know

I would describe this list as the 50 things you already know but likely forget on a day-to-day basis. It all seems like common sense, but I’m the first to admit it’s easy for common sense to elude us (and in some cases, completely disappear.)

Jamie Wieck’s “The 50 Things Every Graphic Design Student Should Know” reminds us how to be professional, how to be ourselves, and how to be better.

Method & Craft

This is a great new design resource and tutorial site: Method & Craft is created by some of the most talented web designers in the business.
